Guidelines for Digital Photo Used as Photo ID

A recent (2X2 inch) color photo of applicant with an active Justice of the Peace (JP) Declaration that reads on the reverse side of the photo: “I certify that this is the true likeness of __________ and I have personally known him/ her for ________ years.”

Note: Applicant’s photo must bear the JP’s name, signature and stamp.

Requirements:

    1. In color
    2. Size: 2 x 2 inches
    3. Taken within the last six months to reflect current appearance.
    4. Taken in front of a plain white or blue background with no objects visible
    5. Taken in full face view directly facing the camera
    6. Displays the top of the hair, bottom of the chin to the top of the shoulders.
    7. Taken without head covering that obscures the hair or hairline unless worn daily for religious purposes. The full face must be visible, and the head covering must not cast any shadows on the face
    8. Taken without hearing aid device unless it is normally worn.
    9. Taken without headphones, wireless hands-free device, or similar items.
    10. Taken with a neutral facial expression with both ears exposed and both eyes open.
    11. Taken in clothing that is normally worn daily.

No fee is charged for the following exceptions:

  1. Defective cards, provided a card reprint request is made within one month from the date of issue; or
  2. Any card identified as printed with an error due to administrative oversight.

Card Validity

For Born Belizean, Naturalized Belizean, Permanent Residence of Belize, CARICOM National (Holder of CSME Qualifying Certificate & Indefinite Entry Stay Stamp):

  • Cards issued to dependent children, under age fourteen (14), are not valid for employment and expire on the day before their 14th birthday.
  • Cards issued to persons, fourteen (14) years and older are valid for employment and do not bear an expiration date.

For CARICOM National (W/ Definite Entry Stay Stamp), Condition Stamp Holder, Refugee Card Holder, Special Permit Holder w/ Condition Stamp, Temporary Employment Permit Holder, and Temporary Resident Permit Holder:

  • All Cards issued are valid for employment and expire on the same day as the valid temporary permit, card or stamp being submitted.

For Student or Dependent Permit Holder:

  • All Cards issued are not valid for employment and expire on the same day as the valid temporary permit, card or stamp being submitted.

Card Photo and Signature:

Persons fourteen (14) years and older must present themselves at the branch office to have their photograph capture and signature recorded. The photo taken will require a snapshot of the frontal view with both ears exposed.

Unacceptable Attire:

    1. Hat, cap nor hair rollers.
    2. Tube blouse
    3. Head covering that obscures the hair or hairline unless worn daily for religious purposes. The full face must be visible, and the head covering must not cast any shadows on the face.
    4. Hearing aid device is only acceptable if it is normally worn.
    5. Headphones, wireless hands-free device, or similar items.
    6. Blouses, dresses and shirts of sheer or see-through material or material with holes
    7. Sleeveless, strapless, unbutton nor very low neckline blouses, dresses and shirts
    8. Sunshade or eyeglasses.

NOTE: Eyeglasses are not allowed except in rare circumstances when eyeglasses cannot be removed for medical reasons. A medical statement signed by a medical professional/health practitioner must be provided in these cases.  E.g. the person has recently had ocular surgery and the eyeglasses are necessary to protect the eyes. If eyeglasses must be worn for medical reasons:

  • The frames of the eyeglasses must not cover the eye(s).
  • There must not be glare on eyeglasses that obscures the eye(s).
  • There must not be shadows or refraction from the eyeglasses that obscures the eye(s).
