First Time Registration

COOPERATIVE, FOREIGN OWNED & LIMITED LIABILITY COMPANY

Registration is completed in person at any Social Security Board branch office within seven (7) days of employing your first employee.  An Employee List (R1A) is to be submitted along with the following documents.

Proof of Identification of Authorized Person, Owners & Directors:

• Valid Social Security Card, Passport or Voters’ Identification Card

Where the subscriber/ shareholder or director is a company, a valid ID of the authorized representative(s) is to be presented.  

Proof of Address of Business, Owners & Directors:

• Utility bill for the local business must bear a Belize address, be active and recent, within the past 3 months.
• Utility bill for the Owners & Directors residing aboard must be active and recent, within the past 3 months. 

Where the shareholder/subscriber/director does not have a utility bill in their name but is renting or residing with someone then, said person(s) must submit the following:  

1. A copy of Rental Agreement or a completed statutory declaration form from the landlord signed by a Justice of the Peace; 
2. An ID from the landlord and; 
3. A copy of a utility bill in the landlord’s name.  

Required Business Documents:

• Certificate of Registration or Incorporation  
• Business Tax Certificate 
• General Sales Tax Certificate
• Trade License Certificate  
• Tax Identification Number Letter 
• Original/ certified copy of the Memorandum of Association 
• Original/ certified copy of the Articles of Association 

An original or certified translation of document(s) if it is not written in the English or Spanish languages.  Certified refers to a verified document by way of affidavit or statutory declaration of the secretary, president, or chairman of the company, or of the translator or otherwise as may be prescribed as a true copy or a correct translation 

INDIVIDUAL (SOLE PROPRIETOR OR PARTNERSHIP)

Proof of Identification:

• Valid Social Security Card, Passport or Voters’ Identification Card for owners/partners 

Where the owner(s) resides abroad, a clear copy of a photo ID of the authorized representative(s) is to be presented along with a letter of authority to conduct business on the owner’s behalf. 

Proof of Address:

• Utility bill for the local business must bear a Belize address and must be active and recent, within the past 3 months. 
• Utility bill for the Owners residing abroad must be active and recent, within the past 3 months. 

Where the individual or partner does not have a utility bill in their name but is renting or residing with someone else then, said person(s) must submit the following:  

1. Copy of Rental Agreement or a completed a statutory declaration form from the landlord signed by a Justice of the Peace with an affixed $1.50 stamp; 
2. A valid ID (Social Security Card, Passport or Voters Identification Card) from the landlord and; 
3. A utility bill in the landlord’s name.  

Business Documents: 

• Certificate of Registration
• Business Tax Certificate 
• General Sales Tax Certificate 
• Trade License Certificate 
• Tax Identification Number Letter 

Optional if business is not liable to be registered under the Laws of Belize.

SELF-EMPLOYED PERSONS

Proof of Identification:

• Valid Social Security Card bearing “Valid for Employment”

Proof of Address of Self Employed Person & Business Residence:

• Utility Bill (Belize Electricity Limited, Belize Telemedia Limited, Belize Water Services Ltd.)
• Must be active and recent, within the past 3 months. 

Where the individual does not have a utility bill in their name but is renting or residing with someone then, said person(s) must submit the following:  

1. Rental Agreement or a completed statutory declaration form from the landlord signed by a Justice of the Peace with an affixed $1.50 stamp; and 
2. A valid ID [Social Security Card or Passport from the landlord; and 
3. The original Belize utility bill in the landlord’s name.  

Business Documents (optional) :

• Certificate of Registration 
• Business Tax Certificate 
• General Sales Tax Certificate 
• Trade License Certificate 
• Tax Identification Number Letter 

CHURCH

Proof of Identification:

• Valid Social Security Card, Passport or Voters’ Identification Card for Shareholders and Directors

GOVERNMENT AND QUASI-GOVERNMENT

Proof of Identification of Authorized Person:

• Utility bill for the local business must bear a Belize address and must be active and recent, within the past 3 months. 

Where there is no utility bill in the name of the Government Department or Ministry name but is renting from someone else then, said person(s) must submit the following:  

1. A copy of Rental Agreement  or a completed a statutory declaration form from the landlord signed by a Justice of the Peace; 
2. An ID from the landlord and; 
3. A copy of a utility bill in the landlord’s name.  

Required Business Documents: 

• Tax Identification Number Letter 

VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTOR

Proof of Identification
