Eligible Persons for Registration are:

  1. BORN BELIZEAN
  2. FOREIGN BORN PERSON WITH PERMANENT RESIDENCY STATUS AND RIGHT TO WORK IN BELIZE:
    1. Naturalized Belizean
    2. Permanent Resident of Belize
    3. CARICOM National (Holder of CSME Qualifying Certificate and Indefinite Entry of Stay stamp)
  3. FOREIGN BORN PERSON WITH TEMPORARY RESIDENCY STATUS AND RIGHT TO WORK IN BELIZE:
    1. CARICOM National (Holder of CSME Definite Entry of Stay stamp)
    2. Condition Stamp Holder
    3. Refugee Card Holder
    4. Special Permit Holder with Condition Stamp
    5. Temporary Employment Permit Holder
    6. Temporary Resident Permit Holder
  4. FOREIGN BORN PERSON WITH TEMPORARY RESIDENCY STATUS  AND WITHOUT THE RIGHT TO WORK IN BELIZE:
    1. Dependent Permit Holder
    2. Student Permit Holder

Note: A parent or legal guardian must apply for the registration of his/her dependent child who is under age fourteen (14) and must provide their valid photo ID. The legal guardian of a dependent child must provide a Court Order showing legal guardianship.

Obligations of Eligible Persons are:

  • Register yourself and your dependent spouse and children with Social Security Board by providing legal, original and valid documents as proof of identity and immigration status. Failure to register can result in delayed payments or forfeiture of benefits.
  • Reapply for a Social Security card if it is expired, lost, stolen, destroyed or defaced and if you meet the qualifying conditions for a card replacement.
  • Updated your personal registration information whenever there is a change.
  • Report and present legal, original and valid documents relating to any change.
  • Do not tamper with any Social Security card or replicate the card that it resembles an original card.
  • Carry your Social Security card on your person at all times and produce the card to your prospective employer when applying for a job.
  • Make available the Social Security card to any authorized Social Security Officer, Health Care Provider or any other official authorized by Social Security upon request.
  • Do not keep in your possession a Social Security card relating to another person, except that of your dependent child(ren) under age 18 and other dependent persons in your custody who are unable to act on their own behalf.
  • Return to the nearest Social Security Branch Office any lost or stolen cards found.
  • Report to the nearest Social Security Branch Office anyone found using, without authorization, the Social Security number or Social Security card belonging to someone else.
  • Return to the nearest Social Security Branch Office, the Social Security card of any deceased person that may be in your possession.
  • All Social Security card shall remain the property of the Social Security Board.
